Description
It is a medical device used to measure blood pressure. It typically consists of an inflatable cuff, a pressure gauge, and a mechanism for inflating the cuff.
The cuff is wrapped around the upper arm and inflated to a pressure higher than the systolic blood pressure (the highest pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts) to temporarily stop blood flow. The pressure in the cuff is then slowly released, and the pressure at which blood begins to flow through the artery again is recorded as the systolic pressure. As the cuff pressure continues to be released, the pressure at which blood flows freely through the artery is recorded as the diastolic pressure (the lowest pressure in the arteries when the heart relaxes between beats).
the pressure in the cuff is controlled by a bulb that is squeezed by hand, and the pressure is measured using aneroid gauge.
